On this optional leg of our Peruvian venture, we will explore a variety of habitats on offer in the high Andes of Peru. Of note will be visits to high-altitude cloud forest, high-altitude grasslands and wetlands, dry scrubland, and a patch of Polylepis Forest, one of the Andes’ most endangered ecosystems. This extension gives us the best chance to see Andean Cock-of-the-Rock, Andean Condor, Masked Fruiteater, Royal Cinclodes, Puna Thisletail, Sword-billed Hummingbird, White-tufted Sunbeam, and Chestnut-breasted Mountain Finch. A full day will be spent in and around Machu Picchu to explore this architectural and archeological wonder.
